When the box arrives
Open it the same day it is delivered. Not because the plant is fragile, but because extended darkness and heat are not helpful. If the box feels warm, place it in a shaded, cool spot for a short period before opening. A gradual transition is easier than an abrupt one.
Cut the tape, lift the flaps, and remove the packing gently. We pack plants snugly so they do not shift during transit. Snug means secure, not confined.
First look
Your plant may look tired. Leaves may droop, yellow slightly, or drop. This is common after shipping. Avoid diagnosing problems immediately. Arrival stress and long-term health are not the same thing.
What matters most is not always visible. We ship plants with established root systems. Those roots support recovery, even if the foliage looks unsettled at first.
The first placement
For the first day, place the plant in bright, indirect light rather than full sun, including plants that normally prefer strong light.
Choose a stable location with:
- consistent temperature
- no cold drafts
- no heat vents
- no harsh afternoon sun
This is a settling period, not an evaluation.
Water, simply
If the growing media feels dry, water lightly and evenly until drainage just begins. If it still feels moist, wait. Avoid overwatering out of caution or withholding out of uncertainty. Keep watering measured and consistent.
During the first 72 hours, the goal is stability rather than visible improvement.
What not to do right away
Do not repot immediately unless the plant is clearly rootbound or the media is failing. Most plants adjust more easily when left undisturbed for a few days. Do not prune right away. Allow the plant to settle before making changes. Do not fertilize during the first week. Stress and added nutrients do not combine well.
After a few days
Once the plant appears less fatigued, it can be moved gradually toward its preferred light conditions. If repotting is planned, do so gently, using well-draining media and avoiding unnecessary disturbance. Maintain steady watering rather than abrupt changes.
New growth follows its own timing.
